WHAT IS THE OUTREACH PROGRAMME?

The Outreach Programme encompasses voluntary efforts by fellow members and alumnis to engage within the society at large in a huge effort to develop debating culture among people and help improve communication skills.

WHAT ARE THE AIMS OF THE PROGRAMME?

- Train, help, and assists anyone who has the will and determination to learn adjudication and debating any formats.

- Sharpening young and bright young minds to ensure they possess high quality intellectual skills through promotion of debating as a culture.This is possible through the thinking process method, note taking method,  ‘Bite The Bullet’ method in order to develop confidence upon participants and proper case building technique. It has been guaranteed to work since these methods are subjectively adapted to each group that we teach. Hence, bringing out the best in them.

- Developing human capital among young graduates to venture the stiff and competitive jobs market.

This has been reflected through our alumnis’ past successes who are spearhearding as top policymakers and constructive movers of various multinational corporations (MNCs) like KPMG, Khazanah Nasional, Petronas, elite law firm Messrs Shook Lin & Bok and even a staff member of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Student Development Division.

It is trite for the English Debating Society to have a winning attitude and is obliged to share this success formula with everyone else.

PAST SUCCESSFUL OUTREACH EFFORTS

- Conducted a Workshop on Asian Parliamentary Debating for ATC Kemayan’s College students.

- Intensive workshop for Univesiti Tun Hussein Onn (UTHM) on Australasian Debating format.

- Conducted central training programs for the British Parliamentary For for all 18 UiTM branch campuses.

- Conducted personalized training programmes in satellite campuses like UiTM Terrenganu, UiTM Melaka etcs.

- Sent a delegation to adjudicate at the International Medical University Medical Educational Conference Demonstration Debate 2009.

- Sent a delegation to adjudicate at Kolej Damansara Utama (KDU) inter-faculty debate upon invitation by both KDU and IIU respectively.

- Sent a delegation for debate in International Islamic University (IIU) annual recruitment drive

- Sent a delegation to debate for the Bar Council’s International Justice Day Debate 2009

Centralized training with Melbourne Debating Society

- Sent a delegation to adjudicate at the Universiti Of Malaya Ibnu Sina’s Medical Debate Final Rounds in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

- Collaboration with other institutions like Melbourne University, Monash University, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UNIMAS), IIU, KDU and other UiTM own satellite campuses for the annual Australasian Debate Training Programme to train with UiTM’s very own selected debating squad in the main campus at Shah Alam.

- Teaches basic English to an orphanage home, Al-Khairiyah which is situated in Meru, Klang.

- Set up an UiTM Model Unted Nations Society, a cluster club of the English Debating Society to spread the benefits of United Nations to debaters and also non-debaters (sharpen argumentative skills and inquiring general knowledge on global issues particularly on UN affairs)

- And many others efforts and collaboration with other organizations and institutions to be accomplished in the near future!
